February 23, 2021

Open Source and Social Media Intelligence was the topic of the EU Advisory Mission (EUAM) flagship training programme known as ‘Leading the Change’ last week.  A tailor-made training course is developed for reform-minded managers from the agencies of Ukraine’s civilian security sector such as the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Justice, National Police, Office of Prosecutor General, Security Service of Ukraine, National Security and Defense Council, State Border Guard Service, Customs and Ministry of Digital transformation.

The Open Source and Media Intelligence training course reflects the growing importance of internet tools in the civilian security sector, especially due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants familiarized themselves with the concept of OSINT (Open-source intelligence), cybersecurity and privacy protection, as well as with main tools for advanced internet search (programmable search engines, aggregators), and verification of cartographic data, image and video search. Last week’s webinar is only the first part of the training course.

Leading the Change’ is part of EUAM’s good governance support to Civilian Security Sector agencies. The programme focuses on public policy, change management, innovative thinking and planning skills. It also aims to raise awareness of the relevant managerial practices in different areas of responsibility, foster the use of EU best practices and support the development of a community of change-makers.

The programme in total will comprise of 12 working days and includes four tailor-made training courses, including system thinking, policy making, digital transformation, and open source and social media intelligence.
