EUAM statement on Kharkiv Pride marchSeptember 06, 2019
The European Union Advisory Mission (EUAM) Ukraine notes with concern that this year’s Pride march in Kharkiv, scheduled to take place on 15 September, faces possible cancellation. EUAM has been working closely both with local law-enforcement agencies and Parade organisers in Kharkiv to ensure that the event takes place peacefully.
We echo the sentiments of the wider international community in expressing our solidarity with local LGBT groups and Pride organisers, and our support for the Pride movement more generally. States have a duty to guarantee that all people can enjoy the freedoms of assembly and expression, which are key to a society in which all citizens can fully and actively participate.
