EUAM endorses the process of reforming the police but does not endorse individuals

November 25, 2015

EUAM supports reform of the National Police of Ukraine, and the steps envisioned by Head of the National Police Khatia Dekanoidze to re-shape the police in 100 days. This said, EUAM —as one of the international observers to the process of re-certification of heads of the National Police of Ukraine — is not endorsing any individuals or specific decisions on the part of the police authority.

A representative of EUAM participates in meetings of the Re-Certification Committee but always abstains from influencing the process or decisions. The choice of appointment was done by the Ukrainian authorities and they have a duty to respond to any questions or issues as regards the professional competence and integrity of the appointee. In the capacity of observers to the process, EUAM maintains a neutral, impartial role, offering advice on matters of policing and European best practices of transparency and accountability.
