Following a recent study visit to Sweden, where the Ukrainian delegation of law-enforcers and researchers explored innovative approaches and EU best practices in countering modern organized crime, including trafficking in human beings, EUAM FO Lviv together with Lviv MoIA University developed a specialized Trafficking in Human Beings (THB) curriculum, which has been already approved by the Scientific Council and was integrated as an essential part of Lviv MoIA University’s educational process.

Last week, building on the existing expertise and the gained insights, the trainers from EUAM, Lviv MoIA University, supported by the NPU HQ and local CSOs, piloted a three-day certificate educational programme “Combating Human Trafficking in Ukraine: Joining Efforts for Success’. Over three intensive days, participants combined theory with hands-on practice, working on case scenarios at the specialized simulation rooms of the University’s THB Centre of Excellence.

The training has gathered investigators and migration police officer from eight western regions of Ukraine – Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopil, Volyn, Khmelnytskyi, Rivne, Zakarpattia and Chernivtsi. Cadets of the university also joined the course, reinforcing the connection between professional training and the education of future police officers.

‘Trafficking in Human Beings remains a serious crime and a major security problem worldwide and countering it is one of the EU and Ukraine’s priorities. By participating in this course, you are taking an important step in protecting Ukraine and fighting for its future’, said Hannelore Valier, Head of EUAM FO Lviv, addressing the participants of the course.

“During this training participants have gained solid theoretical knowledge and important practical skills. These are clear algorithms that define the sequence of actions and help respond effectively to challenges. We remain ready to further develop our cooperation and to incorporate the experience gained into the training of future law enforcement officers”, said Dmytro Shvets, Rector of Lviv MoIA University.
